Congratulations on No More Diapers Day! Glad it is going well, but don't despair if there are some bumps along the way. There almost always are. You've obviously timed this well, as far as your daughter's willingness, etc.

I agree with you that transitioning beds now might be too much change all at once. Let potty training sink in and get fully established before you change her bed. You'll just have to be very responsive to her needs as far as getting to the potty in time.

Best of luck!!

Thanks Emily.

No diaper day started this morning and is going quite well so far. I'm wondering if it might be too much to transition to a bed at the same time. Eek! Maybe I'm doing this backwards but she's doing so well I don't want to stop.

Good question. For awhile, you will be waking your child and bringing her to the potty during the night. I guess this could happen with a crib, but I would recommend transitioning her out of a crib and onto a mattress on the floor before you begin potty training.

Just like anything else, you'll need to set up expectations and limits for the bed before you transition from the crib. This post about the bedroom might be helpful for you.

A question about night time training...what if your child is still in a crib? Once the training phase if over, how will she get to the bathroom if she needs it? I don't feel ready to potty train and transition to a child that could get out of bed whenever she feels like it...advice?

My DD didn't train easily. She simply didn't care if she was wet--in diapers or in panties. She just didn't care. It's hard to get them to use the toilet when they don't care.

Despite trying every possible method that might work, she didn't day train till she was about 3.5. I believed you 3 years ago, but not any more. Always remind people that every kid is different and it doesn't always work.
